We’ve been in the cake design game for decades and we’re proud to show off some of our achievements, take a look...

The Cake Genie participated in a wedding cake competition held at the Good Food & Wine show in 2014.  The guest judge for the competition was the “Cake Boss” himself, Buddy Valastro.  The theme for the competition was “coming together”.  With this in mind, Deon created this bride and groom cake, affectionately called “Mr & Mrs”, as he felt that this would highlight the coming together element.  Buddy agreed and awarded The Cake Genie the Best Wedding Cake award.  What a privilege to meet Buddy and to receive his feedback of the phenomenal attention to detail and perfect sugar flowers made by Deon.

In January 2013, we were honoured and privileged to make the wedding cake for Steve and Janine Hofmeyr’s special day.  It was imperative that the crystal theme be carried throughout the venue, so the cake we created was covered with sugar crystals and edible glitter to create the sparkling effect.  The crystal globe and “waterfall” top stand was imported from America and the other stands were lovingly made by Deon and Carol.

In 2014, Deon was asked to replicate Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake, by Fabiola Sata, the niece of the late Zambian president, Michael Sata.  It took Deon 3 weeks to single-handedly create this masterpiece for Fabiola.  It took 3 days to transport the cake to Zambia via refrigerated truck.  The design of the cake was executed using dummy tiers and fruit cake.  For this reason, the cake arrived safely in Zambia without any damage.  Deon was flown to Zambia to assemble the cake, where it took pride of place at the wedding reception.
